How a Hospital Visit Cost Me My Job

*

Finding the right job, is like trying to find a good boyfriend. Its few and far between. I worked a lot of jobs; most I enjoyed and some I hated. One thing I can say with every job I had was, people suck. We all have heard the horror stories of “Karen” customers, unfit managers and co-worker drama. I’m only here to add too them!

My last job was a casher at a popular grocery store chain. I worked there four years! The longest job I had besides my writing career. It was also the very 1st job I was fired from. Why was I fried? Good question! I was because I was too much pain to work. You see, most retail stores won’t let you sit down. Heaven forbid we rest our asses! So, standing for say 9 hours a day, at my register for 5 days a week simply deteriorated my spine and body so much that I developed sciatica.

Sciatica is nerve damage. Extremely PAINFUL damage starting at my tailbone and down the back on my right leg. This isn't a continuous pain, no, it’s I’m terrified to move in fear I will start screaming again pain. If I sat too long, it was painful, if I stood, it was painful and if I moved wrong, I was screaming. I screamed so much that my throat was raw. I never had a child, but this was the worst pain I ever felt in my life. I had to use a cane to walk, and even then, I might have triggered the pain. And on top of that the CT scans found a slipped disc pressing into the sciatic nerve and might need surgery. Yay!

So I go to my work, let them know what is going on and they tell me I should resign. I refused so... they tell me I will be fried by the weekend. Lovey! If you want to fire a good employee you had for 4 something years, that’s your problem, not mine.

And so, while I wait on my workers comp and SSI from my injuries, I am writing full time. To the certain manager of my local southern grocery store chain and the shitty customers, I hope you get what you have given out. To my AWESOME coworkers, customers and the other and better manager, Love and miss you guys! I wish you the best and happiness beyond. Until Next time!
